The Ministry of Production (Produce) reported that during 2019 the fishing destined for direct human consumption had a positive balance when registering a growth of 11.8% compared to the previous year. This happened because the landing volume closed at 1.3 million metric tons.

This result, it was reported, represents the highest after four years and responds mainly to the greater landing of resources destined for the frozen and canned industry.

Among the species that recorded an increase in the volume of landing destined for the frozen industry, the pota, horse mackerel, tuna and shrimp stand out. And in the canning sector, the downloads of bonito, horse mackerel and tuna increased, among others.

In monetary terms, the extractive activity of fishery resources destined for direct human consumption, in 2019, generated more than S / 2,300 million in the sector. This result has represented 61.5% of the total value of extractive activity in the fishing sector, reported the General Office of Impact Evaluation and Economic Studies of Produce.
