Imarpe begins evaluation of anchovy for second fishing season

This Tuesday, August 22, begins the first evaluation to determine the spawning of the anchoveta for the second season of fishing, says Produce.
 

This Tuesday, August 22, the two scientific vessels of the Imarpe (José Olaya Balandra and Luis Flores Portugal) will sail from Callao to study the spawning biomass of anchovy, information that will help determine the start of the Second Fishing Season 2017 in the area North-Central region of the country, according to the Minister of Production, Pedro Olaechea.

FAO: Peruvian anchovy catches to boost global small pelagics harvest in 2017

Global landings of small pelagics are expected to grow 7% in 2017 compared with 2016, according to a new report by the United Nations's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

"The major reason for this growth is an expected higher catch of Peruvian anchovy. Atlantic mackerel and Atlantic herring are also expected to increase, although not as much as anchovy," the report reads.

The combined increase for herring and mackerel landings in 2017 is expected to be about 4% more than in 2016, according to FAO.

An estimated 85.8% share of anchovy

In the first fishing season, 2,337,098 tonnes of anchovy were used for indirect human consumption, equivalent to 85.85% of the quota allocated for the northern and central areas of the country, Production Minister Pedro Olaechea said.
 
"The first part of the year has been positive for fishing, not only because the oceanographic conditions favored the resource, but, in addition, they were allocated one million tons more than in the first season of 2016, which greatly aided the growth of Gross domestic product (GDP), "he said.

Peruvian fishmeal prices stable as anchovy catches pass 70% of TAC

Peruvian fishmeal prices are expected to remain stable in coming weeks, having already recently fallen amid strong supply from Peru, Europe and Chile.

"Prices at the moment are stable both in China and Peru," a source from a large Peruvian fishmeal producer said.

Pre-sales of Peruvian fishmeal from this ongoing season appear to be at around 500,000 metric tons, most of which in the process of being delivered to China, Enrico Bachis, market research director for IFFO, the marine ingredients organization, told Undercurrent.

Annual summer fishing ban begins in 1st of May 2017 in China

China's moratorium on fishing in all national waters, including the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea, began on May 1, 2017.  Fishing north of the 12 degree north latitude, except for conventional angling or other approved methods, will also be restricted.  The bans in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, above the 35 degree north latitude, are set to end on Sept. 1. As for the East China Sea and the South China Sea, the bans will end on Aug. 1 and Aug. 16, respectively.  This is the longest and most strict bans in China.

Fishing quota for anchovy is 2.8 million tonnes

The First fishing season will start on Saturday. With the limit Fishing Guild, he hoped that it would be "a Good Year"

Peru Results: defined the maximum quota of deep-sea Cod

Anchovy regulation comes early

The Ministry of Production (Produce) has ordered the preventive closure of eight fishing areas in the north of Peru, as a way to control anchovy consumption.

Produce, through its General Supervision and Inspection Division, determined the preventive closure of eight protected marine fishing areas, located in oceans in front of the cities of Chiclayo, Trujillo, Coishco, Chimbote, Samanco, Casma, Huarmey and Huacho.

The Ministry reported that between November 11 and 20, 2016, a total of 587 fishing vessels caught a total of 178,969 tons of anchovy.
