The Ministry of Production (Produce) says the first 2025 fishing season for the anchoveta and white anchoveta resource in the north-central zone of the country has concluded, with biological conditions that require immediate conservation action being reached, as recommended by the Instituto del Mar del Perú (IMARPE).
The measure, made official through Directoral Resolution No. 00120-2025-PRODUCE/DGSFS-PA, is based on the IMARPE technical report, which recommends considering necessary conservation measures for the protection of the spawning and juvenile anchoveta stock and completing the fishing season for this resource in the north-central zone, while warning about the increase in them. gonadal maturation processes of the spawning stock; as well as being close to the limit of capture of specimens in smaller or juvenile sizes established in this opportunity.
"The decision adopted by the Ministry is supported by science and permanent monitoring of our main fisheries. It is a timely measure aimed at guaranteeing the sustainability of the anchoveta", stated the Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Jesús Barrientos.
The regulations are in place since 00:00 hours on July 24th and also establish that shipowners will have 24 hours after the cold to complete the unloading of the resource and 48 hours for its processing. These provisions seek to ensure order during the cold season without harming the industrial process.
"The sustainable extraction of anchoveta is a strategic priority for the country. Seasonal conservation is a responsible action that protects fishing in the future and respects the natural cycles of the resource", added Barrientos, highlighting the work articulated between PRODUCE, IMARPE and the industrial fishing sector.
This fishing season began on April 22, 2025, with a Maximum Total Permissible Catch Limit (LMTCP) of three million tons for the north-central zone, with the publication of this Resolution 2,457,487 tons were captured, which preliminarily represents 81.92%; However, the final figure will be announced in the next few days.
