The Ministry of Production (Produce) reported that it concluded the Second Fishing Season 2025 for anchovy and white anchovy in the North-Central Zone of the Peruvian coast as of 00:00 hours on February 1, 2026.
The decision was adopted following the permanent monitoring of the Peruvian Marine Institute (Imarpe) and the reports of the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction (DGSFS), which indicated that as of January 25, the accumulated landing reached 1,596,013 tons, equivalent to 97.91% of the Maximum Total Allowable Catch Limit (MTACL), set at 1,630,000 tons for the current season.
The head of the sector, César Quispe Luján, explained that the closure of the season is in compliance with current fisheries management regulations and technical criteria aimed at conserving the resource. He indicated that the regulation of fishing activity is based on scientific information and allows for the responsible use of one of the country's main hydrobiological resources.
Following the end of the season, the anchovy gradually enters a period of greater reproductive activity typical of summer, so Imarpe will continue monitoring biological, population and fisheries indicators in order to recommend in a timely manner the necessary measures for its proper preservation.
Produce reaffirmed that the sustainability of the resource is a central focus of the national fisheries policy and that fisheries management is carried out on the basis of technical and scientific criteria, with the objective of guaranteeing the continuity of fishing activity and the protection of the anchovy as a strategic resource for the productive development of the country.
