Today’s Commentary:
Peruvian fishmeal producers continue to hold firm on prices, mainly due to the recent slowdown in fishing progress. The reference pre-sale price for the new-season Super Steam fishmeal is around USD 2,700/ton CNF.
In China, concerns over Peru’s fishing situation, combined with concentrated holdings among fishmeal traders, have supported the fishmeal market. Prices for Peruvian Super prime rose by another approximately RMB 100 today. The market is expected to remain strong in the short term.
According to China customs statistics, China’s soybean imports reached 8.478 million tons in April 2026, an increase of 2.397 million tons year-on-year, up 39.4%. As the volume of imported soybeans arriving and clearing customs has gradually increased in recent days, it indicates that the peak arrival season for imported South American soybeans has begun. At present, the spot transaction price of soybean meal has fallen nearly RMB 500/ton lower than the mid-March peak. RMB prices are expected to remain under pressure.
