Today’s Commentary:

Peru’s Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) officially declared a 120-day state of emergency on August 23, 2026, covering the country's fishing and aquaculture sectors. Sea surface temperatures are running 2-5 C above normal, resulting a severe shortage of fish accessible to the fishing fleet and placing significant pressure on marine ecosystems and wildlife.

Under the normal conditions, the next anchovy fishing season in Peru is expected to begin on November 1, 2026 subject to favorable conditions. However, after 120-days state emergency declared, the Chinese RMB market today is adjusting about RMB 300 higher to reflect growing concerns over potential supply shortages in the period ahead.
