Alert in the Peruvian sea: second North-Central anchovy fishing season 2025 opens with barely 500,000 tons

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) of Peru authorized the start of the Second North-Central Fishing Season 2025 for anchovy and white anchovy destined for indirect human consumption in the maritime area between the northernmost point of the national maritime domain and 16°00'S, with a "provisional" quota of only 500,000 tons.
 

This figure is unusually low for the most productive area of ​​the Peruvian fishing sector, which contributes the majority of the national catch and is key to the country's economic engine

The 2nd season Anchovy Fishing Quota announced Nov 2020

The current quota is higher than the 1st season quota (2.413 millions metric tons.)

Peru's first season north-central anchovy quota slashed by 36%

Peru's Ministry of Production on Friday officially announced the first season of the country's anchovy harvest in north-central waters will begin on May 4, with a quota of 2.1 million metric tons, according to the country's official news agency, Andina.
 

The quota is  lower than last year 3.3 millions metric tons because of the impact generated by the warming of the waters off the Peruvian coast due to the El Niño phenomenon.

The second 2017 Peruvian Anchovy Quota for the North-Centre authorized

Peru's ministry of production, Produce, has set the anchovy total allowable catch (TAC) for the upcoming season -- in the center-north of the country's waters -- at 1.49 million metric tons.
 
Exploratory fishing for this second fishing season of 2017 will begin on Nov. 23, according to local media, citing advice from the Peruvian marine institute, IMARPE.

Opening of the second Fishing Season in the North-Center region to start November 15th, 2016

By R.M Nº 440-2016-PRODUCE, dated November 8th, the Ministry of Production resolved to :  Authorize the opening of the second fishing season of the resource anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) for indirect human consumption in the North-Center region
