New anchoveta assessment for industrial fishing begins

This initiative is known as Cruise 2609-10 for the Hydroacoustic Assessment of Anchoveta and Other Pelagic Resources, a study that will run until October 7 of this year.
 
The assessment will cover the area from Puerto Pizarro in Tumbes to Morro Sama in Tacna, involving 17 fishing vessels, as specified in Directorial Resolution 457-2026-PRODUCE/DGPCHDI, published yesterday, Monday.

A. Summary of Operation EUREKA LXXVIII Results
a)  High Juvenile Presence:
Anchovies in the North-Central region measured between 6.0 and 15.0 cm total length (TL), with a main size mode of 11.0 cm. Juveniles accounted for 65% of fish by number and 48% by weight.

b) Partial Spawning Activity:
Reproductive indicators (such as gonadal maturation) showed a progressive increase through August. However, this activity remains partial and below historical expected averages for the season.

Authorization granted for the start of the first anchovy fishing season in the North-Central zone

The regulations prohibit the extraction of specimens smaller than the permitted size, establishing a maximum tolerance of 10% per operation.

The Ministry of Production (Produce) authorized the start of the First Fishing Season 2026 for the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resources in the North-Central zone of the Peruvian coast.

PRODUCE officially announces the end of fishing season B

The closure of the second 2024 anchovy and white anchovy fishing season in the North-Central Zone of Peru was ordered as of midnight on Thursday, January 23. This measure was announced by the Ministry of Production (Produce) within the framework of sustainable management of marine resources, through Ministerial Resolution 017-2025-PRODUCE.

According to the Peruvian Sea Institute (IMARPE), the closure seeks to protect the spawning stock of anchovy, after a significant increase in reproductive activity was evident.

Peruvian Anchovy Fishing Quota for the North-Centre announced

The Peruvian authorities announced that the second fishing season of anchovy and white anchovy in the North-Centre of the country for the year 2024 will start on 1st November 2024.

 

The quota for this region has been fixed at 2.510 million tons.

Government presented successful results of the first anchovy fishing season in the North-Central zone

The Peruvian government today presented the successful results of the first anchovy fishing season 2024 in the North-Central zone, which reached a landing of 2,430,589 MT, representing 98.21% of the global quota assigned.
 
On board the Scientific Research Vessel (BIC) Humboldt, in Callao, the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, together with the Minister of Production, Sergio González Guerrero, announced the success of the season that officially began on April 16, 2024 with a Total Maximum Allowable Catch Limit (LMTCP) of 2,475,000 tons.

Ministerial Resolution 000289-2024-Produce, published today in the Official Gazette El Peruano, indicates that the first anchovy fishing season of 2024 will conclude at 00:00 hours the day after this regulation is issued, in the area maritime area between the northern end of the maritime domain of Peru and 16º00'S.
